These guidelines will address how to recognize and manage the oral habits of clenching and bruxing that are the principal causes of restoration failures and tooth wear. He will also explain how occlusal parafunction affects our ability to perform restorative procedures, and may be a significant factor in the failure of implants, implant prostheses and the new tooth-colored restorative materials. The management of the worn dentition will be addressed with a unique interdisciplinary approach that will require the restorative dentist to consider new innovations and new information. This program is filled with useful ideas and innovative tips and techniques and will improve your skills and productivity. Co-Sponsored by: Delta Dental Fund
John Molinari, PhD
R04-09
Friday 9:00 am
- 12:00 pm
3 Credit Hours
Seats Remaining: 48
Control of infectious diseases is constantly threatened by the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens. The detrimental impact of antimicrobial resistance on the treatment outcome of patient infections continues to increase, both in terms of increased disease incidence and mortality. Many bacteria, viruses, and fungi are able to mutate and adapt to different host and environmental conditions. As a result, they can develop resistance to the most widely used antibiotics, and can spread from hospital facilities into the general community. This seminar identifies representative risk factors that encourage the emergence and transmission of resistant organisms, examines the relevance of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens for the dental professional, and considers the strategies to combat such pathogens.

In addition, information will be presented concerning certain perceptions against vaccines which threaten their documented global success against many preventable infectious diseases. The overall goal is to present updated scientific and clinical information aimed at fostering a better understanding of the major historical role vaccines have played in prevention of infectious disease, as well as the outlook for future advances.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Molinari is currently Director of Infection Control for The Dental Advisor in Ann Arbor, MI. He was a full-time faculty member at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry for 32 years, where he served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Friday 8:30 am
- 11:30 am
3 Credit Hours

Many argue whether 2009 is in an economic slowdown. The real question is whether or not your patients think the economy is slowing. The key to being successful in a down economy is learning to have the patient see value in your treatment. Far too often, you have presented treatment, only to have the patient respond in terms of affordability in an uncertain economy. Then you later discover the patient has spent twice as much on a trip or a new plasma TV or fill in the blank. This program offers methodology that allows participants to easily determine a patient's decision-making criteria, and then present the treatment in the patient's terms. Participants will learn five steps to effectively creating value for all patients and a step-by-step presentation system that is effective and user-friendly.
Participants will learn:
- Selling Benefits vs Commodities
- Creating Value Every Time
- Removing "Price" from the Equation
- Acceptance of the Treatment Plan vs the Treatment

- Refer new patients and
- Enjoy better dental health and treatment results through improved cooperation, greater trust, and understood value.

Techniques will be discussed and performed by participants "hands on" to allow the dentist to perform basic soft and hard tissue procedures using dental lasers (Er, Cr, YSGG and Diode wavelengths) to harmonize esthetic parameters. Other procedures that will be performed hands on include tooth preparation for direct composite restorations, gingivectomy, and frenectomy.
